KUALA LUMPUR: Police rescued a kidnapping victim in less than 48 hours and arrested six individuals, including a woman, believed to have demanded a RM7 million ransom, during a special operation in Selangor early today.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the operation was launched after police received a report from the 46-year-old victim’s wife at 1.30 am yesterday, claiming that her husband had been abducted and that the suspects had demanded a ransom.

“Through the joint efforts of the Bukit Aman CID and the Selangor CID, the victim was rescued in less than 48 hours from a residential unit in the I-City area of Shah Alam, Selangor, at 1 am today.

“During the operation, police also arrested five men and a woman, aged between 30 and 46, to assist in the investigation. They have been remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961,” he said in a statement today.

Kumar said police also seized various types of drugs, mobile phones and several vehicles believed to have been used in the criminal activity.

He said investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved, establish the motive behind the kidnapping and determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – BERNAMA
