MIRI: Miri police seized 11 motorcycles and issued 45 summonses during an overnight ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ crackdown aimed at curbing illegal street racing and unlawful vehicle modifications.
The operations, conducted by the Miri District Police (IPD) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, ran from 11:00 pm on July 18 to 3:00 am on July 19.
Officers targeted known hotspots across the city, including Bandar Miri, the Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Canada Hill, Jalan Piasau, and Jalan Pujut.
District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, confirmed that 35 individuals were inspected during the sweep. The 11 motorcycles were impounded under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The 45 summonses were issued for a variety of offences, ranging from riding without a valid licence to illegal structural modifications.
Common violations included loud ‘racing’ exhaust systems, missing side mirrors, absent registration plates, and the use of non-standard ‘fancy’ number plates.
“We will not compromise with individuals involved in ‘samseng jalanan’ activities that put themselves and other road users at risk,” Farhan said.
He added that such behaviour disrupts public order, and vowed that enforcement operations will continue until these hotspots are clear.
Police are urging the public to obey traffic regulations and report any illegal street-racing activities to the nearest police station.
