MIRI: The Kenyalang Convention & Exhibition Centre One (KCEC ONE) marked a major milestone today with its official soft launch, signalling the arrival of northern Sarawak’s first international-standard business events venue.
Developed in just six months by Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd – a subsidiary of the TAK Group – the 3,500-capacity facility is designed to anchor the region’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector, driving tourism, hospitality and retail growth.
Sarawak Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, officiated at the ceremony, hailing the venue as a critical asset in Miri’s ongoing transformation into a regional investment and tourism hub.
TAK Group’s founder and chairman, Ar. Teo Ah Khing, described KCEC ONE as more than just a building.
“It marks the achievement of delivering a world-class convention centre that will become a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and community development in Miri and northern Sarawak,” he said.
To mark the occasion, Imasa Dinasti’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives took centre stage, with financial contributions presented to Pei Min Middle School, Riam Road Secondary School, and the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM).
Teo emphasised that sustainable development must align with community empowerment and investment in education.
Highlighting its dual role as a community space, the venue immediately hosted the ‘Senadin Zumba 722 Dance Sarawak 5.0’ programme following the protocol ceremony, drawing over 1,000 active participants.
KCEC ONE represents the first phase of the ambitious RM10.5-billion Kenyalang Smart City development.
The surrounding Convention District is slated to include 248 serviced apartments, 44 commercial shoplots, the upcoming Borneo Adventure Water Theme Park and the Fudan Diagnostic Centre.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to 25 contractors and project partners who contributed to the accelerated six-month fast-track construction timeline.
