KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today boarded AirBorneo’s inaugural Kuching-Kuala Lumpur flight.
The flight departed from Kuching International Airport (KIA) at about 1 pm, with Abang Johari among the passengers on board after officiating the airline’s launch ceremony earlier in the day.
The inaugural service forms part of AirBorneo’s initial domestic network connecting Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, with the airline positioning itself as a key component of Sarawak’s long-term strategy to strengthen air connectivity and support economic development.
During the launch ceremony, Abang Johari said AirBorneo would be developed organically, taking into account market demand and its role as a strategic sector within the services industry.
He also said the airline would help improve connectivity, support logistics, stimulate tourism and create wider economic opportunities for Sarawak.
AirBorneo is expected to commence its first international service to Singapore on July 22, in conjunction with Sarawak Day, while its fleet is projected to expand from two aircraft to four over the next four to five months.
