KUCHING: Tupong will host the 17th P194 Petra Jaya Golf Challenge Trophy on Aug 2, with 200 golfers expected to compete at the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS).
Representing organising chairman and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Captain Talhah Effendi said the annual tournament has grown beyond a sporting event into a platform for strengthening ties among community leaders while promoting a healthy lifestyle and sportsmanship.
“This championship is not merely a golf competition. It is a medium to foster friendship, strengthen unity and build strategic relationships among people from various sectors,” he said at a press conference today (July 21).
Now in its 17th edition, the tournament is organised by the P194 Petra Jaya Service Centre and hosted by Tupong with the support of Samariang and Satok under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
Talhah said the championship aims to strengthen camaraderie among leaders and communities within the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency while promoting a healthy lifestyle and expanding networking opportunities across various sectors.
The championship will feature team, individual and ladies’ categories, with participants competing for trophies, cash prizes, golf equipment, electrical and electronic appliances, shopping vouchers, and lucky draw prizes.
“Our vision is to make the P194 Petra Jaya Golf Challenge Trophy one of Sarawak’s premier community golf events while nurturing more new talent in the sport,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to sponsors, strategic partners, the organising committee and volunteers for their continued support in ensuring the success of this year’s championship.
For the record, Fadillah is scheduled to officiate the closing ceremony of the tournament at the Sarawak Golf Club on Aug 2.
