KUCHING: The Sarawak Day celebration on July 22 is not merely a public holiday but serves as an important symbol of unity and a reminder of the continuous efforts to strengthen the state’s development and progress.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the date was gazetted as Sarawak Independence Day in 2016, giving it great significance to all Sarawakians.

He said the celebration should be observed by all Sarawakians regardless of their location, including those living outside the state, as a reflection of their identity and shared belonging as Sarawakians.

“Every year, the Sarawak government organises the official celebration on a rotational basis in various cities and districts to ensure the participation of people throughout the state,” he said in his Sarawak Day 2026 message, as reported by UKAS on Tuesday (July 21).

He also encouraged the public to join in the celebration and not merely remain spectators but actively participate in the activities.

He added that Sarawak Day also serves as an important reminder for the people on the goals to be achieved and the efforts that must continue in advancing the state’s development agenda.

“July 22 is a very important day for us to assess our achievements and plan Sarawak’s future towards building a more progressive and inclusive state.”

He concluded his message by wishing all Sarawakians a Happy Sarawak Day while calling on the people to continue strengthening the spirit of unity for shared progress.
