LUNDU: Residents celebrated Sarawak Day through fitness and preventive healthcare as the Lundu Heart Day programme brought together a community walk, Zumba session and free health screenings at Lundu Town Square today (Jul 22).

The programme, organised by the Heart Foundation in collaboration with the Tanjong Datu Service Centre, aimed to encourage healthier lifestyles while marking the state’s annual celebration.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Pehin Sri Adenan said Sarawak Day was a time to honour the state’s journey and celebrate the unity forged through its diverse communities.

“Today, we appreciate the contributions of the leaders who came before us. At the same time, we celebrate the diversity of races, cultures and communities that make Sarawak unique.

“Here in Lundu, we are also celebrating Sarawak Day by raising awareness about the importance of taking care of our health,” he said.

Azizul said obesity remained a growing concern in both Sarawak and Malaysia, making it increasingly important for people to adopt healthier habits and undergo regular health checks.

“We must make caring for our health part of our culture. Programmes like this allow families and friends to come together, exercise and strengthen our sense of togetherness while improving our wellbeing.

“Sarawak Day is not only about celebrating our history and diversity. It is also an opportunity to encourage healthier lifestyles and bring communities together to invest in their wellbeing,” he said.

The programme featured a community walk, a Zumba session and free health screening services, giving participants the opportunity to stay active while monitoring their health.
