KUCHING: Kota Sentosa marked Sarawak Day today (July 22) with a community flag distribution programme that saw hawkers, traders, shoppers and motorists proudly receiving and displaying the Sarawak flag.
The initiative, led by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap together with community leaders, covered Kota Sentosa Market and surrounding commercial areas.
Sarawak flags were also distributed to customers, motorists and motorcyclists passing through the area, with many displaying them on their vehicles in support of the celebration.
“Displaying the Sarawak flag is a simple yet meaningful expression of our pride, unity and love for our beloved state.
“Sarawak Day belongs to every Sarawakian, regardless of race or religion, and it reminds us of the importance of standing together to safeguard our unity and our future,” he said.
According to a statement, the programme was intended not only to encourage the display of the Sarawak flag but also to remind the public of the significance of July 22.
He said the occasion allows Sarawakians to reflect on the state’s journey towards self government, honour the sacrifices and vision of past leaders, and renew their commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous Sarawak.
He also thanked hawkers, traders, customers and road users for their warm response to the initiative.
Yap encouraged businesses, organisations and households throughout Kota Sentosa to fly the Sarawak flag during the celebration as a symbol of solidarity, patriotism and shared identity.
He added that Sarawak had continued to make progress in economic development, infrastructure, education, healthcare and digital transformation under the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“As we celebrate Sarawak Day, let us continue to uphold the spirit of ‘Sarawak First’, strengthen our unity, and work together to build a brighter future for all Sarawakians.
“Together, we can ensure that the progress we enjoy today will continue to benefit future generations,” he said.
