KUCHING: Legendary Indonesian rock band Peterpan has no plans to record new songs or introduce a new lead vocalist, choosing instead to preserve the timeless music that has connected generations of fans across Southeast Asia.
The band shared its vision during an intimate meet-and-greet session with fans at Star On Stage (SOS) on Tuesday evening, held ahead of its much-anticipated appearance at Rock in the City (RiTC) 2026.
Representing the band were original members Loekman Hakim (Lukman), Ilsyah Ryan Reza (Reza), Andika Naliputra Wirahardja (Andika) and Hendra Suhendra (Hendra), who were warmly welcomed by fans eager to reconnect with one of Indonesia’s most influential rock alternative and pop rock group.
The evening became a nostalgic celebration as the musicians performed excerpts from some of Peterpan’s best-loved songs, including Semua Tentang Kita and Mungkin Nanti, prompting fans to sing along and relive memories spanning nearly two decades.
Speaking during a question-and-answer session, keyboardist Andika said Peterpan’s priority is to keep the band’s musical legacy alive rather than pursue a new chapter with fresh material or a replacement vocalist.
“Finding a new vocalist has never crossed our minds. We simply want to celebrate the songs that have created beautiful memories for so many people. We hope these songs will continue to live on and be enjoyed by future generations,” he said.
Peterpan is scheduled to headline the opening night of Rock in the City 2026 on 29 August at Wisma Melayu, performing alongside guest vocalist Arda Hatna.
Fans can expect a set featuring between 10 and 12 songs, primarily drawn from the band’s iconic early albums – ‘Mungkin Nanti’, ‘Ada Apa Denganmu’, ‘Menghapus Jejakmu’, ‘Semua Tentang Kita’, ‘Ku Katakan Dengan Indah’, and their breakthrough debut, ‘Mimpi Yang Sempurna’.
Organised by Authentic Ideas and Event Enterprise (AIEE), Rock in the City 2026 marks the festival’s move into Kuching city after two successful editions of Rock in the Jungle at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
The two-day festival, held on 29 and 30 August, aims to strengthen music tourism while showcasing regional rock talent from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
Besides Peterpan, the festival line-up includes Barbarik, Fearless, Senseless, Secret Signal and Sarawak’s own Post Mortem Education, promising two nights of rock performances for fans from across the region.
