BAU: The newly completed RM10 million Bau Sports Arena in Jambusan will officially open its doors to the public following its soft launch on September 15.

Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep confirmed that construction of the multi-purpose facility is fully complete, with final preparations underway ahead of the formal site handover to the Bau District Council.

Speaking after a working visit to inspect the interior, the Tasik Biru assemblyman highlighted that the arena—funded under the Sarawak Government’s People’s Project initiative—will serve as a key regional landmark for sports, health, and community engagement.

“The arena is more than just a sporting venue,” Henry noted, describing his original vision for the complex. “It is a centre that will promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community ties, and provide opportunities for people of all ages—especially our youth—to develop their athletic potential.”

Groundwork on the complex began in October 2023. The completed hub houses three futsal courts, six badminton courts, a dedicated Muay Thai training zone, and an open-air gymnasium.

Beyond hosting competitive sporting events and training camps for futsal, badminton, and basketball, the flexible space is built to accommodate youth workshops, health campaigns, community gatherings, Gawai celebrations, and district-level carnivals.

Once fully operational, the arena will complement Bau’s existing mini stadium and civic centre, reinforcing the district’s standing as a vibrant sports and cultural hub.
