SIBU: About 10,000 people packed Dataran Tuanku Bujang on Wednesday night for the official Sarawak Day assembly and People’s Concert, uniting in a vibrant display of state pride and solidarity.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi graced the event, alongside Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who officially launched the evening’s festivities.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister-in-Charge of the event Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, and State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
The formal program began with the official hoisting of the Sarawak flag before transitioning into an energetic concert lineup featuring prominent local artists. Former Miss Malaysia Dewi Liana Seriestha captivated the crowd, followed by show-stopping performances from Hafiz Suip, Ricky Andrewson, Kelly Ho, Claudia Geres, Priscilla Abby, Ericson, and Mimi Fly.
Thousands in attendance sang along, waving miniature state flags as the crowd embodied the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’.
The celebration culminated in a massive fireworks display over the Rajang River, illuminating the night sky with brilliant bursts of red, gold, and blue, bringing the state milestone to an unforgettable close.
