KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch marked Sarawak Day with a community walkabout in Padungan here last Wednesday (July 22), promoting patriotism and raising awareness of the historical significance of Sarawak attaining self-government on July 22, 1963.
Led by acting branch chairman and Central Working Committee (CWC) member Jong Yean Pin, the programme brought together branch leaders, members and supporters to engage with residents and business owners while highlighting Sarawak’s development journey over the past six decades.
The walkabout began at Petanak Market before the delegation made its way around the Padungan area, where they interacted with the public, gathered feedback and shared the significance of Sarawak Day.
Jong said understanding Sarawak’s history is essential in fostering a united, confident and forward-looking society.
“Sarawak Day serves as a reminder of the vision, sacrifices and determination of past generations whose efforts laid the foundation for the state’s development.”
During the engagement, Kuching SUPP also highlighted the contributions of former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, in championing Sarawak’s rights, as well as the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in driving the state’s transformation towards a digital economy, green economy and high-income future.
The branch also shared progress achieved under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), citing initiatives in renewable energy, digital transformation, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, food security and high-technology industries.
According to the branch, these initiatives demonstrate Sarawak’s steady progress towards becoming a modern, prosperous and globally competitive state.
Kuching SUPP said the successful implementation of long-term development plans requires a stable, united and forward-looking government capable of sustaining economic growth and improving the people’s quality of life.
The branch also expressed appreciation to past and present state leaders for their contributions to Sarawak’s development, saying their leadership, together with the support of the people, has enabled the state to enjoy peace, stability and sustained progress.
Joining Jong during the walkabout were Women’s chief Chai Men Nyen, branch vice-chairman Ting Wei Tzen, deputy Youth chief Tan Kuan Ching, training secretary Lucas Lim, social media chief David Law, branch committee members, zone leaders and supporters.
