KUCHING: Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) and Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) have strengthened their strategic partnership through the exchange of a Letter of Intent (LOI), reinforcing their commitment to talent development, digital innovation and industry-based learning.
According to a statement today, the LOI exchange took place on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the ‘Ikon Siarawan POLYCC 2026’ programme on July 22, involving PKS Director, Mohamad Nazri Ismail, and SCV’s Chief Executive Officer, Jane Lian Labang, and witnessed by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation’s (SEDC) Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain.
The collaboration between the two institutions began in late 2025 through the KayoKayo Trip innovation project developed by PKS’ Department of Information and Communication Technology (JTMK), which went on to earn recognition at polytechnic, national and international levels and opened the door to wider cooperation.
Building on that success, two JTMK students, Angel Jambrose and Mohd Nur Rahimi Abdul Razak, undertook industrial training at SCV in early 2026 under the guidance of lecturer, Azhar Abd Hamid, during which they developed the Interactive SCV Website with AI along with an online ticketing system for the Sarawak Harvest Folklore Festival (SHFF) 2026.
The Interactive SCV Website with AI, a digital platform designed to enhance visitor experience through artificial intelligence, was officially launched at the same event, further strengthening the delivery of information and digital services at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
Beyond developing these digital solutions, PKS also contributed through the involvement of its lecturers, students and volunteers in supporting SHFF 2026, demonstrating that TVET institutions can serve as strategic industry partners beyond producing skilled workers.
Nazri said the collaboration reflects PKS’ commitment to strengthening TVET education anchored in innovation, technology and industry needs.
“PKS is always committed to producing graduates who not only master technical knowledge and skills but are also able to apply their expertise to solve real industry challenges.
“This collaboration with Sarawak Cultural Village proves that synergy between educational institutions and industry can produce innovations that benefit organisations, society and the state’s economic development,” he said in the statement.
He said PKS would continue to strengthen its network of strategic partnerships with industry players across various fields to expand opportunities for industry-based learning, applied research and technology development that can benefit society and the nation.
