KUCHING: More than 50 entrepreneurs and artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasts participated in the Learn AI for Business workshop organised by the Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS) Kuching Branch in collaboration with Ibrandium at the Borneo Cultures Museum here on Friday (July 24).
The full-day workshop was attended by Kuching DUBS chairman and DUBS Negeri Youth Wing chief Ts Khairulnizam Mohamed Khalid, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to equipping Bumiputera entrepreneurs with practical digital skills.
The training was conducted by Ibrandium founder and HRD Corp accredited trainer Afiq Khatem.
The programme, held from 8am to 5pm, featured two hands-on sessions, namely AI Video Creation with Google Flow and From Idea to App with AI Coding.
Participants learned to create AI-generated promotional videos using visuals, voiceovers, music and text, while the second session introduced AI-assisted application development, enabling participants to transform business ideas into simple digital applications without requiring extensive programming knowledge.
By the end of the workshop, participants had produced their own AI-powered promotional videos, while many also developed initial application prototypes tailored to their respective business needs.
Most of the participants were representatives of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), reflecting growing interest among local businesses in adopting AI technologies to improve productivity and remain competitive in the digital economy.
Speaking at the programme, Khairulnizam said AI is no longer a technology of the future but a business necessity that entrepreneurs must embrace.
“Through programmes like Learn AI for Business, DUBS aims to ensure that Bumiputera entrepreneurs are equipped with practical knowledge that can immediately improve productivity, enhance competitiveness and open new opportunities for business growth.
“Our aspiration is to build a resilient, innovative and digitally empowered entrepreneurial community that is ready to contribute to Sarawak’s vision under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).”
The workshop was organised following DUBS’ recognition that local Bumiputera entrepreneurs require practical AI skills to enhance productivity, strengthen competitiveness and seize new business opportunities.
According to the organiser, the initiative also supports Sarawak’s PCDS 2030, which identifies digital transformation, innovation and human capital development as key drivers of the state’s economic agenda.
Kuching DUBS and Ibrandium plan to organise more industry-focused AI programmes across Sarawak, with future initiatives focusing on AI applications in marketing, content creation, workflow automation, customer engagement and digital business development.
