KUCHING: Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent emails impersonating Sarawak Energy and its operations and retail arm, Syarikat Sesco Berhad (SESCO).
The phishing emails fraudulently use the company’s name to deceive recipients into disclosing confidential information and to receive money in malicious ways.
Sarawak Energy advised customers to never disclose passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs) or other sensitive personal information via email, nor asked to make payments to personal or unauthorised bank accounts.
“Sarawak Energy is closely monitoring the situation and taking the necessary steps to address the issue,” it said in a statement on Friday.
The utility stressed that all official email correspondence is issued only through the @sarawakenergy.com domain, and customers should independently verify any unusual or unexpected requests through the company’s official channels.
Customers are also advised to make payments only through Sarawak Energy’s authorised billing and payment channels as its official billing processes, payment platforms and customer service operations remain secure and unchanged.
Sarawak Energy further urged anyone who receives any suspicious email or other communication claiming to represent the company to report it immediately for verification before deleting it.
It added prompt reporting will help prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
