KUCHING: Police have launched an investigation into a viral 28-second video depicting a man allegedly jumping off the iconic Darul Hana Bridge into the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a formal police report was lodged on July 24 following the widespread circulation of the clip on social media platforms.

“The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing an act that endangers the personal safety or lives of others in a public space,” Alexson said in a statement.

If convicted, the perpetrator faces up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both.

Alexson noted that officers are actively working to verify the authenticity of the footage and establish the identity of the individual involved. He strongly cautioned the public against performing dangerous stunts or engaging in reckless behavior that threatens lives and public safety.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to assist the investigation by calling the Kuching District Police Headquarters at 082-244444 or contacting investigating officer Insp Aliff at 013-3115854.
