SAMARAHAN: Samarahan Country Club’s Anson Yeo Boon Xiang captured the inaugural Borneo Amateur Open Golf Championship 2026 after carding a winning total of 213 to lift the YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah Challenge Trophy.
The three-day championship, held at Samarahan Country Club (SCC) from July 23 to 25, attracted 76 golfers representing 16 clubs and golf associations from Malaysia and Brunei, underscoring the tournament’s growing regional appeal.
Besides claiming the prestigious title, Yeo, who represented SCC, also received cash vouchers and a trophy for his outstanding performance in the 54-hole championship.
Yeo finished 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Kall Danish, who returned 227, while Joshua Lim completed the top three with a score of 231 in the men’s gross category.
In the men’s nett (36-hole) category, Adrian H’ng Chi Chien of Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) emerged champion with a score of 136, edging clubmate Yoo Dae Hee on countback after both golfers finished tied on the same score.
Herman Bulang Malay of SCC finished third on 142, followed by Lincoln Leong on 143 and Chang Tze Hiung on 146.
Daniel Yeo Thian Chai of KGS claimed the Day One gross honours with a score of 77, while Magit Semong of SCC matched that score to win the Day Two gross title.
In the daily nett competition, Adrian Sia Bee Sen of SCC won the Day One honours with a score of 72, while Ngu Ung Chai of Kelab Golf Bintulu secured the Day Two title with the same score.
Meanwhile, Jaryl Tan emerged champion in the invited guest Stableford competition with 44 points. Junical Ujial finished second on 43 points, followed by Pauline Gan (41), Barnabas Dickson (40) and Wilfred Mujah (40).
Prizes were presented by Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Also present were Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Datuk Miro Simuh as well as SCC captain, Dylan Lai.
The successful staging of the inaugural championship is expected to strengthen Samarahan’s reputation as an emerging golfing destination while providing amateur golfers from across the region with a competitive platform to test their skills.
