KUCHING: Formula 1 is officially returning to Malaysia after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in a social media post that Sepang International Circuit will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from October 2 to 4.

In the post, Anwar said he had the opportunity to meet His Royal Highness, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as Formula 1 President and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali.

He expressed his appreciation to the Bahraini leadership, government and people for the trust and confidence placed in Malaysia to support the Kingdom of Bahrain, Formula 1 and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in staging the race at Sepang.

Anwar described the collaboration as more than the hosting of a world-class sporting event, saying it reflected the enduring friendship, mutual trust and close partnership between Malaysia and Bahrain while reaffirming Malaysia’s readiness and capability to host major international events.

“Malaysia stands ready to welcome Formula 1, the FIA, the teams and fans from around the world back to Sepang. We look forward to showcasing our world-class infrastructure, operational excellence and warm hospitality,” he said.

The October 2-4 event marks Formula 1’s return to Malaysian soil after years away from the country’s motorsport calendar, with Sepang International Circuit once again set to welcome the world’s premier racing championship.
