DEBAK: National multisport athlete Norazrin Kamsor and rising mountain biker Muhammad Haziq Danish emerged champions in their respective categories at the 7th Saribas International MTB Jamboree 2026 after conquering the demanding Sarawak trails.
Representing RKCYCLEGARAGE, Norazrin claimed the Women’s Open (13+) title in 2:02:55, while Haziq of Tugau Vaie won the Men’s Open (18+) category with a time of 1:32:50.
Norazrin finished ahead of Jong Meiting (Individual), who clocked 2:12:31, while Aw Juey Fang of Solidarity took third in 2:22:40.
In the men’s race, Haziq denied defending champion Laurel Lauridsen Adrian of Sabah’s Ghost Speed Racing Team, who settled for second in 1:35:52. Mohd Zakwan Zamahari of Solidarity completed the podium in 1:37:28.
Norazrin, who hails from Melaka and works in Putrajaya, described the Saribas course as a refreshing challenge compared to races in West Malaysia and Sabah.
“The route here is different compared to races in West Malaysia. Although the elevation was stated to be around 200 metres, it felt more challenging, with a good balance of climbs, trails and on-road sections,” she said.
She also commended the organisers and the support shown by the local community.
“The organisation was good, with clear updates before the race, many activities and strong support from the community. It was a very enjoyable experience, and if there is another edition next year, I would definitely come again,” she told Sarawak Tribune.
Meanwhile, Haziq described the victory as a rewarding breakthrough after finishing fourth in last year’s edition.
The 22-year-old from Kajang, Selangor, who has been involved in mountain biking for five years, said his improved preparation paid off.
“Last year I finished fourth. This time, I prepared properly and gave my best effort. Alhamdulillah, I managed to become champion,” he said.
Haziq, who did not finish (DNF) at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), said the setback motivated him to improve. He also revealed he has received offers for a potential opportunity to represent Malaysia.
A total of 197 riders from Sabah, Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, South Africa and across Sarawak competed in 12 categories over the gruelling 40.5-kilometre course.
The jamboree was organised by the Saribas Service Centre (DUN N.35) in collaboration with the Betong Division Cycling Association (BDCA).
Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development and Saribas assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohamad Razi Sitam presented the prizes. Also present was Betong Division Youth and Sports Department (JBS) officer Nurul Zam Zam.
