KUCHING: A Malaysian man in his 20s was killed while another Malaysian was seriously injured after a street brawl involving two groups erupted in Eumseong, North Chungcheong province, South Korea, early on Sunday.
According to The Korea Herald, South Korean police arrested a Malaysian man in his 40s on suspicion of murder after he allegedly stabbed the victim during the fight, which involved about 10 people outside a commercial building at around 3am.
Police said the two groups had reportedly been involved in an ongoing dispute and had agreed beforehand to meet for the confrontation. The circumstances leading to the clash remain under investigation.
The victim was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to hospital, while another Malaysian who was injured in the incident remains under treatment.
The suspect allegedly fled to a nearby residence after the brawl but was arrested about an hour later. Police are questioning him and are expected to apply for a formal arrest warrant upon completing their preliminary investigation.
“We are investigating what led to the group brawl and whether the suspect had planned the killing,” a police official was quoted as saying by the Korean publisher.
