LIMBANG: Students and teachers at SMK Medamit here now have better access to hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning following the launch of a new STEM Hub by Sarawak Energy and Lighthouse of Hope Sarawak (LOHS).
In a statement issued by Sarawak Energy today, the SMK Medamit STEM Hub is the fifth hub established under a two-year collaboration between Sarawak Energy and LOHS to expand access to STEM education in rural communities across the State.
Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice-President for Corporate Services, Marconi Madai, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting education and youth development, particularly among students in rural communities.
“Through this collaboration, we hope to provide students with greater exposure to technology and practical problem-solving while supporting teachers in delivering more interactive learning.
“This also supports Sarawak’s aspiration to nurture a skilled and future-ready workforce, especially among young people in rural communities,” he said when officiating at the launch on July 10.
He added that the establishment of the STEM Hub was a positive development for Limbang as it would give students in the area access to practical learning opportunities that could support their ambitions in science, technology and innovation.
He also encouraged students to make full use of the facilities and programmes available through the hub.
LOHS Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lee Chee San, thanked Sarawak Energy for its continued partnership and support in advancing STEM education across the State.
He said the collaboration demonstrates how partnerships between corporate organisations and community-based organisations can create meaningful and lasting social impact while inspiring more students to pursue STEM education and careers.
The STEM Hub is equipped with learning resources for robotics, drones, solar energy, coding, 3D printing, and laser printing to make STEM learning more practical and encourage further studies and careers in related fields.
Extending beyond the provision of equipment, the collaboration enables students and teachers to receive ongoing support through the STEM Ambassador Programme, besides workshops and roadshows involving neighbouring schools and communities.

Selected students will be trained to lead peer learning activities and support the use of the hub, while teachers will receive training to enhance project-based STEM education and guide students in developing practical projects.
The launch also featured the signing of a Community Cooperation Note between SMK Medamit, represented by principal, Linda Liau, and LOHS, represented by Lee.
