SELANGAU: Two local labourers were arrested for alleged drug possession and consumption during a targeted narcotics raid near the Selangau-Mukah Road flyover yesterday (July 28).
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a team from the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) picked up the duo, aged 30 and 37, at around 10.30 am.
A body search conducted on one of the suspects uncovered a transparent straw tube containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine (syabu), weighing approximately 0.40 grams.
Subsequent urine tests conducted at the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD) confirmed both men tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, upon conviction. They are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.
DSP Muhamad Rizal added that both suspects have been remanded until July 31 to facilitate ongoing investigations.
