MIRI: Safe, reliable and responsive offshore helicopter services are a critical pillar of Sarawak’s oil and gas industry, ensuring the efficient movement of personnel to offshore platforms while maintaining round-the-clock emergency response capabilities.

Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said offshore aviation services are indispensable to the state’s energy sector, supporting operational continuity, workforce mobility, and emergency preparedness across offshore installations.

“Safe, reliable and responsive offshore aviation services are essential in transporting personnel between onshore facilities and offshore oil and gas installations.

“They also play a vital role in emergency preparedness and support the continued growth of Sarawak’s energy sector,” he said in a statement following a visit to HAS International on Tuesday (July 28).

The visit provided the ministry with a comprehensive overview of the company’s offshore aviation operations, including its engineering and maintenance capabilities, crew change services, personnel transportation, and its 24-hour medical evacuation (Medevac) operations.

The delegation was also taken on a tour of the Flight Operations Centre, engineering and maintenance facilities, where they were given a closer look at the company’s helicopter fleet and the operational systems that support offshore missions.

Lee commended HAS International’s management and workforce for maintaining high standards of professionalism, technical expertise, and aviation safety.

“I congratulate the management and the entire HAS International team for their professionalism, technical capability and unwavering commitment to aviation safety, operational reliability and service excellence,” he said.

He added that the visit had strengthened the ministry’s understanding of the strategic role played by specialised aviation operators in enhancing the safety, resilience and long-term sustainability of Sarawak’s offshore oil and gas industry.
