KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: Sabah FC has secured a RM4-million sponsorship from Emas Sri Semantan Sdn Bhd to strengthen the team’s preparations for the 2026/2027 season, which is scheduled to kick off this August.
Sabah FC’s Chairman, Datuk Alijus Sipil, said the sponsorship from the private entity would be put to the best possible use, particularly for player training programmes and preparations for the new season.
“We will make the best use of the sponsorship for our players’ training programmes and our preparations for the 2026/2027 season.
“We will strive to achieve better results than we did last year,” he told reporters after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the gold-related business company here today.
He said although Sabah FC finished relatively low in the Malaysia League standings last season, the team reached the FA Cup final before losing to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), and also emerged as Challenge Cup champions.
He added that Sabah FC is now in the final phase of its preparations, with further updates, including details of the player line-up, to be announced from time to time via the club’s official social media platforms.
Meanwhile, Emas Sri Semantan’s Chairman, Hafizal Mahmood, said the company chose to sponsor Sabah FC due to the extraordinary support for football among the people of Sabah, as well as the presence of its three gold jewellery outlets in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau.
“Why did we choose Sabah? As we already have three outlets in Sabah – in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau – we feel it is our responsibility to be part of the community here.
“What we are doing is driven by our commitment to giving back to the community. That is why we chose football and are providing RM4 million in sponsorship for Sabah FC this season,” he said. – BERNAMA
