BAU: Narcotics police rounded up four suspected drug offenders, including a teenager, in separate raids yesterday (Jul 29), while recovering a packet of suspected syabu from one of them.
The arrests were made during an integrated crime prevention and warrant operation carried out by the Narcotics Crime nvestigation Division (NCID) at Kampung Pangkalan, Kampung Opar and Kampung Skibang.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said a 31-year-old labourer was allegedly found in possession of a plastic packet containing 0.71g of suspected syabu, estimated to be worth RM70.
He was arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs.
Initial urine screening later found all four suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, leading to their arrest under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.
The remaining suspects comprised a 24-year-old unemployed man, a 29-year-old labourer and a 16-year-old Form Five student.
“Background checks showed the 24-year-old and 29-year-old had prior drug-related offences, while the other two had no prior records.
“During preliminary questioning, the 31-year-old, 24-year-old and the student admitted to taking syabu a day before their arrest.
“The 29-year-old, meanwhile, told investigators he had last consumed the drug four days earlier,” he said.
The 31-year-old will be remanded to facilitate investigations into the drug possession case.
Mohd Haide said the 29-year-old is scheduled to be charged at the Magistrate’s Court in connection with an earlier drug-related offence, while the 24-year-old is expected to face a charge under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Kuching Court.
As the student is a minor, he has been referred to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in Kuching for further action.
