PADAWAN: A local woman was arrested for drink-driving while dozens of motorists were slapped with traffic summonses last night (Jul 29).
Codenamed ‘Ops Mabuk’, the operation was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division along Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping, which saw 49 vehicles and 48 individuals inspected.
Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said the 29-year-old female driver failed the preliminary alcohol screening before being taken to Batu Kawa police station for a confirmatory test using the evidential breath analyser (EBA).
“The EBA test recorded an alcohol reading of 88mg per 100ml of blood, exceeding the legal limit under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“If convicted, the offence carries a fine up to RM30,000, imprisonment of up to two years, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years,” he said.
Besides the drink-driving arrest, 44 summonses were issued for a string of traffic offences.
Among them is illegal exhaust modifications, non-compliant and fancy licence plates, driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, and lacking insurance coverage.
Barry said the operation is part of the police’s ongoing enforcement efforts to remove intoxicated drivers from the roads and improve motorists’ compliance with traffic laws, in a bid to make the roads safer for all users.
