MUKAH: The ‘Ziarah Mahabbah’ programme is strengthening direct engagement between Islamic institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and communities throughout Sarawak.
Sarawak Islamic Council’s (MIS) President, Datuk Misnu Taha, said the initiative extended beyond large gatherings by bringing participating agencies directly to communities.
He said it sought to strengthen ties among Islamic institutions and NGOs while fostering closer relations with the people they served.
“We go to the ground and engage directly with communities to strengthen the synergy between Islamic agencies and Muslim communities wherever they are,” he said.
He said this during the ‘Ziarah Mahabbah Majlis Islam Sarawak 1448H/2026M Central Zone’ programme at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja here today.
Misnu said the ‘Ziarah Mahabbah’ event was implemented across the Southern, Central and Northern Zones to ensure its activities reached communities throughout Sarawak.
These included programmes to enliven mosques, empower women, strengthen Islamic affairs, and promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
Misnu said Mukah was selected to host the Central Zone programme, which involved 10 Islamic agencies and strategic partners.
A total of 46 programmes were organised under the Central Zone edition, attracting 6,740 participants.
He said the initiative reflected the Sarawak Government’s aspiration to ensure that Islam and the Muslim community progressed alongside the state’s overall development.
“All these programmes are intended to bring us closer to the community, strengthen our ties with the people and, most importantly, connect Islamic agencies and NGOs with society,” he said.
He added that the programme also placed emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), particularly among Muslim students.
MIS, he said, was working with PETRONAS to conduct STEM-related activities and encourage more students to pursue fields that would enable them to benefit from the educational opportunities provided by the Sarawak Government.
