KUCHING: More than 2,000 participants are expected to join the Merdeka Spirit Run 2.0 at Padang Merdeka on Sept 6, celebrating National Day through unity, inclusivity and healthy living.

The event, organised by JVY Event Management Company with The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), will coincide with the DBKU Car Free Morning programme beginning at 6:00 am.

“The Merdeka spirit is about unity, belonging and ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to participate. This event brings together people from different races, religions, backgrounds and abilities to celebrate as one community,” said organising chairman, Ryan Jee Kouk Hiong, in a press statement on Friday (July 31).

He said the event aims to strengthen patriotic awareness while promoting social inclusivity, encouraging Malaysians from all walks of life to celebrate National Day together.

The run features 3km and 5km categories for the public, with registration closing on August 6 after more than 1,600 participants signed up.

“We are targeting more than 2,000 participants, reflecting encouraging public support for community programmes promoting healthy lifestyles and national unity,” he said.

About 40 persons with disabilities representing physical, visual, hearing and intellectual disability groups are expected to participate, highlighting the organisers’ commitment towards inclusivity and accessibility.

“A special 1km category for wheelchair users has been introduced to provide a safer and more accessible opportunity for participation,” he said.

Around 70 children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Sarawak (PERYATIM) will also join the event, reflecting the organisers’ commitment towards building a caring and inclusive community.

Participants will also enjoy interactive games and product sampling by NutriGold, sports massage services by Elite, alongside aerodance sessions before and after the run.

“A reliable and stable registration system is vital for efficiently managing large participation while providing the public with a smoother registration experience,” he said, thanking CheckPointSpot.

He expressed hope that cooperation between DBKU, sponsors, volunteers, participating organisations and the public would strengthen community ties while encouraging greater participation in recreational and sporting activities.
