BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Sarawak is seeking to deepen its strategic partnership with Brunei by expanding cooperation into new economic sectors, particularly tourism, the digital economy, renewable energy and high value manufacturing.
Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said both neighbours should strengthen collaboration to unlock new economic opportunities that would deliver long term benefits for both sides.
He added that tourism offered significant potential, noting that Brunei possesses well developed logistics infrastructure while Sarawak is enhancing regional connectivity through the establishment of AirBorneo.
“A strategic codeshare partnership between AirBorneo and Royal Brunei Airlines has the potential to expand destination networks, positioning Brunei as a gateway to the BIMP-EAGA region.”
Beyond tourism, Awang Tengah said Sarawak is accelerating the development of new economic sectors, including downstream oil and gas processing such as methanol production, the digital economy, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, aerospace and modern food production.
He said stronger cooperation in these industries would not only boost bilateral trade and investment but also strengthen food security, create high quality jobs and generate sustainable economic growth for both Sarawak and Brunei.
“The opportunities before us extend well beyond traditional trade. By working together in these emerging sectors, we can build a more resilient and competitive regional economy for the mutual benefit of both nations.”
