KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department detained 64 suspected undocumented migrants during a two-day enforcement operations across Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
The operations, codenamed Ops Selera, Ops Mahir, Ops Belanja, Ops Gegar and Ops Sapu, was carried out by the Kuching Enforcement Division from 9 am on July 29 until 3 am on July 30 following public complaints and intelligence.
A total of 107 individuals were inspected at 13 locations in Kota Sentosa, Batu 10 to Batu 12, Pending Industrial Estate, Metrocity, Sematan, Batu Kawa and Kota Samarahan.
The operations targeted eateries, factories, construction sites, premises suspected of operating online gambling activities, massage centres, grocery shops and rented rooms in shophouses.
Those detained are suspected of offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and failing to possess valid travel documents or passes.
They were taken to the Immigration Office for further investigation.
The department said it would continue intensifying enforcement operations against undocumented migrants and other immigration offenders.
It also urged the public to report illegal activities to help safeguard public safety and national sovereignty.
