KUCHING: Five local teenage boys, including a 14-year-old, have been arrested in connection with a gang robbery involving a sharp weapon at premises along Jalan Tun Jugah here on June 1 this year.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said those arrested ranged in age from 14 to 18.
They were nabbed in separate operations around Kuching and Serian between 12.15 am and 3 am on Friday (Jul 31) by a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The arrests led to the seizure of several case exhibits, including a car used in the robbery. Record checks found that the five suspects had no previous criminal records.
“All the suspects have been remanded for five days to assist in further investigations,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with a sharp weapon, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and may also include whipping upon conviction.
