SARIKEI: A total of 163 scouts from 15 primary and secondary schools participated in the 2026 Sarikei District Scout Badge Scheme Camp to strengthen leadership, discipline and practical scouting skills.
The three-day camp, held from July 31 to August 2 at the Co-Curricular Training Centre, Rajang Campus of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), concluded with a closing ceremony officiated by Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak, Methodius Macdonald ak George Segie, on behalf of Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak, John Lim Boon Beng.
“The Sarikei District Scout Council and the Sarikei District Scout Commissioners’ Council deserve praise for successfully organising a meaningful programme that contributes significantly to developing knowledgeable, disciplined and skilled scouts,” Lim said in a press statement on Tuesday (Aug4).
“The camp was designed not only to help participants earn Progress Badges, Proficiency Badges, Interest Badges and other scouting awards, but also to strengthen character, teamwork and essential life skills through structured learning activities,” he said.
He encouraged scout leaders at school and group levels to plan continuous training programmes, enabling more scouts to qualify for the Scout Cord Award before eventually pursuing the prestigious King’s Scout Award.
“Throughout the three-day programme, participants completed badge assessments and practical activities, including firefighting demonstrations, first aid training, flying fox, rappelling, archery, slingshot shooting, backwoods cooking, trekking, singing and a cultural night.
“The firefighting, rescue and first aid sessions were conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department, providing participants with valuable emergency response knowledge alongside outdoor adventure and leadership experiences,” he added.
Among those attending the closing ceremony were Sarikei District Scout Council Chairman Mohamad Rezza, Sarikei District Scout Commissioner Zalani Sidi, Rajang Campus IPG representative Rahmad Ali, Padawan District Scout Commissioner Daut Taim, assistant district scout commissioners and school headmasters.
