SIBU: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak has reinforced its commitment to organisational readiness by bringing together 134 support group officers for a four-day retreat aimed at strengthening teamwork, operational alignment and preparedness for future environmental responsibilities.
Held in Sibu from July 30 to Aug 2, the second edition of the NREB Support Group Retreat 2026 carried the theme Revisit, Rethink and Recharge, bringing together officers from the NREB headquarters and divisional offices across Sarawak.
The retreat was officially opened by Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak Datuk Jack Liam, who said support group officers play a vital role in ensuring the effective delivery of the agency’s services and day to day operations.
“Revisit what we have achieved, rethink how we can become better and recharge our spirit to move forward as a stronger team,” he said, adding that the retreat was designed to help officers reflect on the organisation’s achievements, review its strategies and work processes, and renew their commitment as NREB prepares to take on broader responsibilities in environmental management and governance.
Jack also reminded officers to uphold the Sarawak Civil Service’s core values of integrity, kindness and compassion, professionalism, a sense of urgency and ownership, teamwork, and results driven performance.
According to a press statement, participants attended briefings on NREB’s strategic direction, operational and management functions, environmental monitoring and enforcement, environmental education and awareness, administrative procedures, organisational quality, service delivery initiatives, and preparations for the transfer of environmental functions under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The retreat also featured a motivational session, discussions on resolutions developed during the programme, and an open dialogue chaired by Jack, allowing officers to raise operational issues, seek clarification and share suggestions to improve organisational effectiveness and service delivery.
