SELANGAU: Narcotics police arrested two labourers after allegedly uncovering methamphetamine hidden inside their car on Sungai Nirai Bridge along Jalan Pan Borneo Sibu-Bintulu on Monday (Aug 3).
The suspects, aged 21 and 38, were taken into custody following a roadside operation at around 11.30am.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the pair were inside a blue Proton Suprima S parked by the roadside when officers conducted an inspection of the vehicle.
“A search led to the discovery of a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, which was concealed beneath the carpet on the front passenger side of the car.
“The seized drugs weighed an estimated 0.35g.”
Both suspects, who are local men, were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
Urine tests conducted on them returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and drug use.
Both suspects have been remanded for two days until Aug 6 to facilitate investigations.
