KUCHING: A two-day enforcement operations across the district ended with 17 foreigners behind bars after immigration officers raided eight locations following public complaints and intelligence gathering.
The operations, conducted by the Sarawak Immigration Department from Aug 3 to 4, covered Tarat, Jalan Mambong, Kota Padawan, Stakan and Muara Tuang under ‘Ops Pintu’, ‘Ops Mahir’, ‘Ops Selera’ and ‘Ops Sapu’.
Enforcement teams inspected residential houses, a factory construction site, workers’ quarters and several shophouses suspected of being used for illegal online gambling activities.
A total of 162 people were screened for their documentation during the operations.
Of the figure, 17 foreign nationals were detained for allegedly committing offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
The alleged offences include overstaying, remaining in the country without valid travel documents, and breaching the conditions of their immigration passes.
All those arrested were taken to the Immigration Office for further actions.
The department said it will continue intensifying enforcement operations to curb immigration offences and other unlawful activities involving undocumented migrants.
Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting suspected cases involving undocumented migrants or the misuse of immigration facilities through its official channels.
