KUCHING: Students and teachers of SK Matang Jaya here can now enjoy a safer and more comfortable sports facility following the completion of an upgraded games court under the 2023 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
The RM70,000 project, funded through an allocation from Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, involved the construction of a reinforced concrete layer over the existing court surface as well as repainting works to improve safety, comfort and the overall quality of the facility.
Fazzrudin, who is also Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, officiated at the site handover ceremony for the completed project today (Aug 5).
Speaking at the ceremony, he said quality educational facilities are a long-term investment in the development of future generations.
“Providing quality educational facilities is a long-term investment in nurturing an active, healthy and competitive generation,” he said.
He added that better sports facilities not only provide greater comfort for the school community but also support students’ character development and co-curricular excellence.
“I hope this upgraded facility will be fully utilised by students and teachers as a conducive space for sports, recreational and co-curricular activities, contributing to students’ character development and overall well-being,” he said.
Fazzrudin also said the continued implementation of RTP projects demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing public amenities and educational infrastructure in the Tupong constituency.
The upgraded games court is expected to provide a safer environment for sporting and recreational activities while encouraging greater student participation in co-curricular programmes.
