DARO: A 29-year-old man, who was reported missing after going to Sungai Penuai in Kampung Penuai Beriut here to collect clams, was found safe this morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the search and rescue (SAR) operations entered its second day today after receiving an emergency call at 10:25 pm on Thursday (Aug 6).
The victim, Mohammad Senawi Gamat, was reported missing by his father where he had gone to Sungai Penuai with a friend to collect clams.
“The victim and his friend split up and searched the area for clams separately. However, Senawi failed to return home, prompting his father to lodge a police report,” it said.
The second day of the SAR operations began at 8:00 am, involving firefighters from the Daro station, police, the Civil Defence Force (APM), the Pulau Bruit Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS), and villagers.
At 8:19 am, the victim was found safe after making his way out of the river area and returning home on his own.
He was subsequently taken to hospital for a medical examination.
Following discussions among the agencies involved, the operations were officially called off at 8:30 am.
