KUCHING: Kuching City FC will be out to “steal” points when they take on Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the 2026/2027 Charity Shield at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim on August 21.
Club chairman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, acknowledged that the task against the reigning Malaysian football powerhouse would not be easy, but said the team would give its best to come away with a positive result.
“Of course, we will try to steal points because the Charity Shield is already counted as points. We know it will not be easy at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim, but we will do our best.
“Even if we can get one point, we will be grateful. If we win, then it will be a bonus,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.
He said Kuching City FC were aware of the challenge posed by JDT but remained focused on competing strongly and taking their opportunities.
The match will also serve as an important test for Kuching City FC as they continue preparations for the new Malaysia Super League season, with the club aiming to build momentum against one of the country’s top sides.
Fazzrudin added that every point would be valuable throughout the campaign, and the team would continue to fight for the best possible outcome in every match.
“We will do our best and hopefully we can achieve a good result,” he said.
The 2026/2027 Charity Shield will feature reigning double champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim, and Malaysia Super League and Malaysia Cup runners-up, Kuching City FC, following the 2025/2026 season.
JDT lifted both the league title and Malaysia Cup last season, while Kuching City FC finished second in both competitions.
