SARIKEI: A missing road link towards Bukit Kinyau has been identified as part of efforts to connect the town with developing areas across the river.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the broader plan was to connect the town with its developing outskirts.
“We will connect Sarikei town with the outskirts of Sarikei that we are developing on this side of the river,” he said during a site visit to the Sarikei Bypass Road project here today (Aug 8).
He said there appeared to be a missing road link towards Bukit Kinyau and that he had asked the Land and Survey Department to work out the estimated cost of connecting the road to the area.
“I have asked the Land and Survey Department to make an estimate of how much it would cost to connect the road to Bukit Kinyau,” he said.
The proposed connection comes alongside the ongoing 4.95km Sarikei Bypass Road project, which recorded 95.94 per cent actual progress as of July 25, against 96.85 per cent planned.
The project has a revised completion date of Sept 1, 2026, according to the project briefing.
The bypass has an estimated project cost of RM35.5 million, with a contract sum of RM20.88 million.
Abang Johari said another road would also be developed in Meradong to connect agricultural areas.
“There is also a road that will be developed in Meradong which will connect the agricultural areas,” he said.
