KOTA SAMARAHAN: A burst 800mm water main near Aiman Mall here has disrupted water supply and caused low pressure in several areas of Kota Samarahan and surrounding rural districts.

Sarawak Water said the main pipe was damaged during construction works associated with the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

Consumers along Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa, Taman Desa Ilmu and surrounding areas are among those affected.

The incident also disrupted the transfer of treated water from Sarawak Water to areas served by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in Samarahan.

This has affected water supply in Tambirat, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau and Simunjan.

“Technical teams have been deployed to the site to carry out repair works as quickly as possible,” it said in a statement today (Aug 10).

Water tankers have also been mobilised to locations requiring temporary supply assistance.

Sarawak Water said it is in the process of coordinating with JBALB, the KUTS project team and relevant agencies to ensure the repairs are carried out safely and completed promptly.

It said supply would be restored gradually once the repairs were completed and pressure within the distribution system had stabilised.

“However, recovery times may vary by location, particularly in elevated areas and places situated at the tail end of the distribution network.

“Consumers are advised to follow Sarawak Water’s official communication channels for further updates,” it added.
