SIMANGGANG: Firefighters are battling two separate bushfires in the district that have scorched a combined 6.4 hectares of vegetation over the past three days.
The first fire, reported at Ladang Tebaruk on Saturday (Aug 8), affected about 2.4 hectares and was brought under control at around 10 pm the same day.
Firefighters from Sri Aman station returned to the site yesterday (Aug 10) to conduct further extinguishing work, using water from an open drain located about 1km away.
The operation, involving seven firefighters, was completed at around 1pm after the entire 2.4-hectare area was successfully extinguished.
A second bushfire was reported today along Jalan Kejatau-Lingga, where an estimated four hectares of vegetation were affected.
Seven firefighters were deployed to the scene, with the operation beginning at around 1.35 pm.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze were ongoing at the time of the report.
No casualties were reported in either incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department has repeatedly urged the public to avoid open burning, particularly during hot and dry conditions, as fires can spread rapidly to surrounding vegetation.
