KUCHING: Health Management International (HMI) Medical is investing RM50 million over the next five years to develop a future-ready healthcare workforce in Malaysia.
Group chief executive officer (CEO) Chin Wei Jia said the investment will be channelled through the HMI Malaysia Healthcare Workforce 2030 fund.
She said the fund will support scholarships, education sponsorships, clinical attachments and professional development opportunities across HMI Malaysia’s hospitals in Kuching, Johor and Melaka.
“These talent development initiatives will also benefit healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines, including medicine, nursing, allied health, healthcare management and emergency life support.
“This five-year commitment reflects our belief that investing in healthcare talent development is essential to strengthening Malaysia’s healthcare system for generations to come.
“With our shared commitment, we look forward to shaping the future of healthcare in Malaysia together.”
Chin said this at the earth-breaking ceremony of HMI Medical’s Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching at The NorthBank here on Monday (Aug 10).
She said healthcare providers need to look beyond meeting present demand as patient needs become more complex and medical technologies continue to advance.
This included expanding access to quality healthcare, bringing advanced medical capabilities closer to communities and developing the professionals needed to deliver such care.
Chin said HMI Medical believes investment in people is just as important as investment in advanced healthcare infrastructure and technology.
“No matter how advanced a hospital may be, its greatest strength will always be the people working within it.”
