LUNDU: Regatta Batang Kayan 2026 is expected to draw about 30,000 visitors to Lundu Waterfront over three days from Sept 25 to 27.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the biennial event, listed on the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts’ tourism calendar, is being organised through a collaboration between government departments and agencies, NGOs, the local community and the private sector.

“This will continue to move the local economy, and hotels in the surrounding areas will keep getting promoted,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday (Aug 11).

He said 17 teams had registered so far, mostly from Lundu itself, with others coming from Seratok, Gedong, Sebuyau, Batu Kitang and Kampung Empila in Kuching, and Kampung Lubok.

The nine categories with total prize of RM106,250 include the Balok 10, Bidar 15, Bidar 20 and Bidar 25 events, as well as the Bidar 30 “Raja Sungai Batang Kayan 2026” race, which alone carries a RM20,000 cash prize, and a 4km Bidar 30 marathon final.

Other attractions during the regatta include ‘Konsert Rakyat’, strongman and slingshot competitions, volleyball, archery, a motorbike gathering, Jualan Rahmah and exhibition booths.

The event’s opening ceremony is expected to be officiated by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, with the closing ceremony to be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
