KUCHING: Five sports facilities in Sarawak undergoing upgrading and repair works are targeted for completion by the first quarter of 2027, ahead of the SEA Games in September.
The state Public Works Department (PWD) said the projects involve the Sarawak Stadium, Unity Stadium, Lawn Bowls Arena, Wushu Training Centre and Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) facilities.
The department said the staggered completion between January and March would provide sufficient time for final preparations and inspections before the facilities are used for the Games.
Its director Datuk Cassidy Morris inspected the five project sites on Tuesday (Aug 11) to ensure works remained on schedule and complied with the required specifications.
“The upgrading and repair works at Sarawak Stadium have reached 22.55 per cent completion and are scheduled to be completed in January next year.
“Works at Unity Stadium have reached 13.31 per cent and are expected to be completed in February.
“The Lawn Bowls Arena is targeted for completion in January, while upgrading works at the Wushu Training Centre are scheduled to be completed in February.
“The SLTA upgrading project, meanwhile, is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed in March,” it said in a statement.
During the inspection, Morris stressed the importance of effective coordination among all parties to ensure the projects get completed within their respective timelines without compromising quality and safety.
He called on project teams, consultants and contractors to maintain the pace of work and promptly address any issues that could affect progress.
