SERIAN: Sixty-five Muslim women gathered at Masjid Darul Makmur here for a two-day workshop on strengthening leadership and dakwah skills.
Organised by Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia’s (PERKIM) Kuching and Serian branches with the Sarawak Islamic Council, the ‘Dakwah and Muslimah Leadership Workshop 2026’ was held on August 8-9.
“Muslim women should be part of the change-makers, not merely observers of change,” said PERKIM Serian Chairwoman, Jamayah Jamal.
She said this during the opening ceremony of the workshop, which carried the theme ‘Muslimah Inspirational to the Ummah’ and focused on empowering Muslim women.
The programme brought together committee members and participants from PERKIM Kuching, Serian and Lundu branches, alongside several Islamic and community organisations.
Among them were the Serian Saudara Kita Secretariat, Serian Islamic Welfare Trust Board, HIKMAH Tebedu Women’s Taklim Council, and Persatuan Kebajikan Tionghua Islam Sarawak (PERKTHIS).
The workshop sought to enhance Muslimah leadership capabilities while strengthening women’s roles in dakwah, communication and digital literacy amid changing social challenges.
Participants attended lectures, panel discussions, practical exercises and group sessions focusing on Muslimah dakwah principles, effective communication, and leadership skills.
The sessions also highlighted relevant digital dakwah approaches, equipping participants with practical knowledge to communicate Islamic messages more effectively through contemporary platforms.
The closing ceremony was officiated by PERKIM Kuching Chairwoman, Datuk Seri Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Haji Fauzi.
Her speech was delivered by PERKIM Kuching’s Deputy Chairwoman, Zabariah Matali, who represented her during the closing ceremony.
In her speech, Sharifah Mordiah expressed appreciation to PERKIM Serian for its collaboration in organising the workshop and strengthening cooperation between both branches.
She described the collaboration as an example worth continuing to expand the impact of dakwah across Sarawak and strengthen cooperation among Muslim communities.
