SELANGOR: Sarawak Sports Corporation’s (SSC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Sarawak State Sports Council’s (MSNS) Director, Mu’azamir Jili, welcomed Sarawak’s biggest SUKMA contingent group so far at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 today.
The group, comprising around 60 athletes and officials from rhythmic gymnastics, judo and kabaddi, arrived on an AirBorneo flight from Kuching International Airport (KIA).
They were led by Sarawak Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development and Deputy Chef-de-Mission (DCDM), Nancy Jolhi.
Nine media practitioners from Sarawak, including sports reporters from Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, also accompanied the group to cover the contingent’s participation throughout SUKMA Selangor 2026.
Mu’azamir said today marked the first major movement of the Sarawak contingent, with more groups expected to arrive over the coming days.
“This is our first day, and this is the biggest group so far, together with the media. Thank you to the media for supporting us,” he told reporters at KLIA 1.
He said only about one-third of the Sarawak contingent had arrived, with more athletes and officials still making their way to Selangor.
“Today is the biggest group, while another big group will arrive tomorrow, and the movement will continue until August 18,” he said.
Sarawak, the defending overall champions after topping the medal tally at SUKMA 2024, will compete in 37 sports at this year’s Games.
