KUCHING: Sarawak now has 208 Certified Integrity Officers (CeIO) trained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to help strengthen integrity and internal controls in the state administration.
State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, said the officers play an important role in ensuring integrity is embedded in the daily operations of government agencies.
“The role of CeIO officers is very important as drivers of integrity culture. They also help identify risks, strengthen internal controls, provide professional advice and ensure that integrity values are incorporated into daily work practices,” he said.
He said this in his welcoming address at the Sarawak Integrity Day 2026 celebration here today.
Abu Bakar said the state government, through its integrity unit, has also organised various programmes and activities to promote integrity as a daily practice among different levels of leadership.
He said these efforts extend beyond the civil service to include political leaders, non-governmental organisations and other sectors.
He stressed that civil servants are the principal link between government policies and the people’s well-being, making integrity essential in discharging their responsibilities.
“As the main machinery responsible for implementing government policies, the Sarawak and federal civil services carry the responsibility of translating the leadership’s aspirations into outcomes that benefit the people.
“The success of a policy does not depend solely on good planning but is also determined by efficient, effective and ethical implementation,” he said.
Abu Bakar said the Sarawak civil service remained committed to carrying out its responsibilities with integrity, professionalism and accountability.
He also said integrity may not be physically visible, but its value is reflected in how decisions are made, public resources are managed and development projects are implemented.
“Every decision and action undertaken by the civil service must be centred on the people’s interests and Sarawak’s aspiration to become an advanced and prosperous region,” he said.
Themed ‘Integrity, the Foundation of Sarawak’s Prosperity’, the annual celebration highlights the importance of accountability in managing public resources and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.
