SARATOK: Police arrested an unemployed man for allegedly stealing seven 12-foot-long timber logs at Kampung Hilir Kabong.

Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the 45-year-old suspect was arrested following a report lodged by a complainant from Kampung Hilir Kabong on Aug 13.

The complainant reported that the timber logs on the roadside of the village were stolen on Aug 12.

“Following the report, a police team was mobilised to arrest the suspect at his home in Kabong.

“The team arrested the suspect and seized a motorcycle, a pink shirt and seven illipe nut (kayu engkabang) timber logs, which were hidden underneath the suspect’s house,” he said.

Mathew said further checks found that the suspect had four previous criminal records and tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He said the total loss was estimated at around RM210, while the suspect was believed to have stolen the timber to obtain money to buy drugs.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
