KUCHING: RHB Banking Group has launched Sound Box Plus, combining DuitNow QR and card payments in one device for merchants.
RHB Bank Berhad managing director, Group Wholesale Banking, Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir, said the device was designed to simplify payment acceptance as businesses handle higher transaction volumes across multiple channels.
“Sound Box Plus supports DuitNow QR (DNQR), debit and credit card payments and is equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, built-in SIM connectivity and real-time voice payment alerts.
He said the device is particularly suited to merchants handling card transactions below RM250, in line with NFC tap payment limits. DNQR transaction limits remain subject to individual online banking thresholds.
Its real-time voice alerts provide immediate confirmation of successful transactions, which he noted could help merchants reduce the risk of fraudulent payment claims.
“Sound Box Plus offers a more cost-efficient alternative to conventional card terminals while allowing merchants to accept several payment methods through one device.
“Businesses today require payment solutions that are not only efficient but also secure and scalable as transaction volumes grow,” he said.
He said the bank was seeking to simplify payment acceptance across multiple channels as digital payment adoption increases.
The device also eliminates the need for printed receipts. RHB said its built-in connectivity is intended to support reliable payment acceptance during peak business hours.
Sound Box Plus follows RHB’s earlier Static and Dynamic DNQR Sound Box solutions as the banking group expands its payment acceptance offerings for businesses.
