KUCHING: Kapit Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has brushed aside further questions about his political future, saying his intentions have already been made clear.
Pressed by reporters during a press conference on whether his previously stated political direction was now confirmed, Nanta, who is Works Minister, declined to elaborate.
Prior to the press conference, he officiated at the Closing Ceremony of the Expansion Course for the Road Accident Management System (RAMS) and Road Accident Data Reporting under PDRM K27 Standard, in Collaboration with the Ministry of Works (KKR) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) 2026.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Secretary-General stressed that there was no need to continue dwelling on the matter or place undue focus on him.
“I’m not trying to make myself the focus of this. I believe I have made my intentions clear, and there is no need to keep focusing on me.
“As far as I’m concerned, I have said what I needed to say on the matter, and I think that is sufficient,” he said.
Nanta added that political decisions also had to take into account the party’s internal processes and governance.
“Within our political system, there are processes and governance within the party that must be respected. I have already made my intentions clear, and I do not wish to keep repeating them.
“For me, enough has been said on the matter. There are many other important issues that deserve our attention, including road safety and other matters affecting the people.
“Politics is politics, and I appreciate your concern,” he said.
Nanta had previously announced that he would not defend his Kapit parliamentary seat in the next general election (GE16).
He has, however, indicated his intention to remain in politics and to contest a new state constituency within the Kapit parliamentary area should the seat be gazetted ahead of the next Sarawak election.
